At Hadley’s Orient Hotel, our heritage-listed hotel plays host to almost two centuries of stories, scandals and secrets to be explored. The floor boards whisper of the hotel’s rich and often tumultuous history.

In fact, the halls house memories of gentlemen’s lunches, nights of cabaret and the most marvellous soirées. It’s true that the very fabric of the property is woven with tales of convicts, entrepreneurs, celebrities-past and countless other patrons of days gone by.

Some such figures include Sir William Don (1862), Tasmania’s first royal visitor, the Duke of Penrieve, France (1866), Dame Nellie Melba (1909), Antarctic explorers Douglas Mawson (1911) and Roald Amundsen (1912) as well as a host of visiting governors, premiers and prime ministers.

Suggested itinerary- Hobart Long weekend

Hobart-waterfront-Kathryn-Leahy-129550.jpg

Day 1 - Arrive and Relax

  • Arrive and check in at Hadley’s Orient Hotel. Our friendly staff will show you how to get to our secure CBD carpark, which is just a quick 5-minute drive away. Make yourself comfortable in our Victorian suite, and head to the Orient Bar for a martini or get a glass of bubbles during Happy Hour! Discover the remarkable history of Hadley’s by listening to the Trail of Terrific Tales located on the wall around the hotel and take in the exquisite art collection. Enjoy a light Tapas dinner in the Orient Bar or take the 10 minute walk to Hobart's famed waterfront precinct for a range of dining options.

Day 2 –  Immerse in culture

  • One of the best way to learn about Hobart is to walk around the harbour. Don’t forget to ask for a town map at reception. Salamanca Market is a must on Saturdays as is the Farmers Markets on Sunday; however, through Brooke Street Pier and along Salamanca Place, you’ll find a variety of shops offering incredible handcrafted pieced and local produce. You’ll be surprised by what you can discover. Take the opportunity to explore Battery Point, which is easily accessible from Salamanca by going up Kelly’s Steps. Enjoy a cup of coffee or tea with a pastry at Jackman & McRoss.

Take the afternoon up a notch by testing your detective skills with our free Murder Mystery card game during your service!  In the evening grab some fresh fish and chips from one of the many boats at Constitution Dock, find a comfy spot around the harbour and watch the sun set over majestic Kunanyi (Mt Wellington)

Day 4 – Get Out of Town

  • After savouring a delicious Hadley's Signature Breakfast served in the Mary Hadley Room, walk down to Pennicott Wilderness Journeys docked at Hobart Waterfront.
